First Bank is Wichita County’s oldest financial institution, opening its doors to the public in 1907. Founded by legendary Wichita Falls businessman Joseph A. Kemp, the bank opened under the name of the First National Bank of Burkburnett.
Since that time, the bank has served as a steadfast community partner and has been instrumental in the growth of north Texas and southern Oklahoma. From the 1918 oil boom in Burkburnett to the construction of Sheppard Air Force Base in the 1940s and the home building and buying blitz of the 1990s, the bank has successfully met the growing financial demands of an ever-changing economy.
A second location in Wichita Falls was added in the mid-1990s to help meet the mortgage lending needs of the growing city, and is today among the top mortgage lenders in the area. Since its humble beginnings in 1907, assets for the financial institution have grown from $25,000 to over $200 million.
In January 2000, the bank changed its name to better position itself for future growth. Today, First Bank remains a local banking leader with offices in Wichita Falls, Burkburnett and Iowa Park.
